Rethinking the special section
Often newspapers like to mark the anniversary of an important story with a large special section, gathering all the historical data and photographs and capturing new interviews for readers. As an assignment for my Digital Journalism course, my team translated this idea to the Web, making the most of the infinite space for stories for those who really want a great history lesson and offering quick entry points and multimedia features for those who want more than just what would appear in print. We built a one-stop-shop for a fictitious newspaper based in Baltimore covering the Watergate scandal as it happened looking back 25 years.
